The Opportunity Of Difficulty
“The Pessimist Sees Difficulty In Every Opportunity. The Optimist Sees Opportunity In Every Difficulty.” – Winston Churchill
We all know that life has its ups and downs, and surely by now we have learned not to frown upon the state of affairs. But surely not every situation is easily manageable when you are head over heels into it. By detaching from one’s current situation, coaching can help you understand all aspects of it, stop worrying, come to terms with them and even overcome emotionally painful situations you might face at this point in time. Just like Churchill puts it or the eastern philosophy of Yin and Yang, we can work together to defeat the negatives and pulsate on the positives.
So let’s deep dive into the Yin & Yang philosophy.
Yin is the feminine or negative principle. It’s main characteristics are darkness, wetness, cold, passivity and disintegration. It’s main cosmic element is the moon. Every situation has a negative attached to it. It’s important not to stress on this element too much, but to understand those negative consequences and how they might affect you. Once we have identified them, you will be quicker to assess their impact and avoid delving into obsessively thinking about them.
Yang is the masculine or positive principle. It’s main cosmic element is the sun, which is characterised by light, warmth, dryness and activity. Together Yin and Yang form the whole as the cosmos and the universe work together based on those ancient principles. As with the negatives, there are also positives in each situation. Our work together will focus on identifying those beneficial aspects and focus your attention in getting as much out of each of those unfavourable circumstances. Our minds are wired to worry as a survival mechanism. In today’s environment worries are just adding to the clutter of our thoughts, not providing any relevant tools for actual survival. Given the fact that we no longer live in the woods, and no wild animals can kill us at any given point, nor can we suffer from any weird wildling disease, our worry defence mechanism can only provide extra stress in our daily environments, raising our cortisol levels, which can in turn affect our health in a negative way.
Extending our understanding of Yin and Yang, we can infer that each situation has a positive and a negative attached to it. As your coach, I can teach you how to evaluate each situation on its own, through the Yin and Yang lens, which can provide you with a clear mindful framework for the positives against the negatives. Moreover my goal is to help you achieve your most desired dreams and teach you how to see opportunities where others see failure. There is nearly nothing that we cannot turn around in your favour.
As Churchill explains, our collaboration should help you become more optimistic when tackling new tasks, speaking with your supervisor, or dealing with a tough client.
